MEDICARE

Medicare is a federal health insurance program that provides coverage to eligible individuals who are 65 years of age or older, or who have certain disabilities. In the state of New Jersey, Medicare is administered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and provides coverage for a variety of medical services, including hospital stays, doctor visits, and prescription drugs. Medicare in New Jersey is divided into four parts: Part A, which covers hospital stays and other inpatient services; Part B, which covers doctor visits and other outpatient services; Part C, which is also known as Medicare Advantage and offers an alternative way to receive Medicare benefits; and Part D, which covers prescription drugs. To be eligible for Medicare in New Jersey, an individual must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident and meet certain age or disability requirements.

MEDICARE ADVANTAGE

Medicare Advantage, also known as Part C, is an alternative way to receive Medicare benefits. It is offered by private insurance companies that contract with Medicare to provide all of an individual's Medicare Part A and Part B benefits. Medicare Advantage plans often include additional benefits and services, such as routine dental and vision care, that are not covered by Original Medicare. Some plans also include Medicare prescription drug coverage. To enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan, an individual must be enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B and must live in the plan's service area. Medicare Advantage plans may have different out-of-pocket costs and provider networks than Original Medicare, so it's important to compare plans and choose one that meets your needs and budget.

OPEN ENROLLMENT

Open enrollment is the period of time each year when individuals who are enrolled in Medicare can make changes to their coverage. In New Jersey, the open enrollment period for Medicare typically takes place from October 15 to December 7. During this time, Medicare beneficiaries in the state can switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare, enroll in a new Medicare Prescription Drug Plan, or make other changes to their coverage. It's important to note that not all changes to Medicare coverage are allowed during the open enrollment period, so it's a good idea to speak with one of our insurance agents to learn more about your options and to make sure that you are making the best decision for your health care needs.
